Simulated rear‑wheel horsepower and torque — measured after the primary drive, clutch and transmission, the same way a chassis dyno reads a bike. These are not flywheel numbers, and they are not directly comparable to a manufacturer’s crank rating. Rev ceiling for this combination: 5400 rpm, limited by cam.

This is the engine that replaced the Evo in 1999 — 88 cubic inches, carbureted through a Keihin CV40, a catalyst in the pipe and the mildest cam Harley ever shipped in a Big Twin.

The number above is at the rear wheel, which is why it looks low next to anything you have read in a brochure. Crank figures for the same engine run roughly a fifth higher before the primary, clutch and transmission take their cut. Both numbers are true; they are measured in different places.

What limits it is not the displacement. The stock cam signs off early and the rev ceiling arrives before the engine is finished breathing — which is why a cam is the first thing that actually moves this engine, and an air cleaner on its own is not.
