How much horsepower will a dyno tune add?

Stock 103 · calibration only, no hardware
Peak horsepower
73 hp @ 5500
Peak torque
89 lb-ft @ 3500
Displacement
103 ci
Compression
9.7:1

Simulated rear‑wheel horsepower and torque — measured after the primary drive, clutch and transmission, the same way a chassis dyno reads a bike. These are not flywheel numbers, and they are not directly comparable to a manufacturer’s crank rating. Rev ceiling for this combination: 5500 rpm, limited by engine.

Torque, lb-ft, at the rear wheel. Everything except the part named is identical between the two runs.

Nothing here is unbolted. The only change is the calibration: fuel and timing matched to the engine on a dyno instead of the factory map.

On a completely stock engine the gain is modest — there is not much the factory left on the table when nothing else has changed. The reason to note it is what happens after hardware goes on: the same tune that is worth a little here is worth considerably more once a cam and an exhaust have changed what the engine wants.

The order matters. Tune last, after the hardware, and the tune earns its money. Tune first and you pay for it twice.
